Occorre una “visione”, una capacità di ascolto e di dialogo, non sempre esente da conflitti, con una realtà specifica, che si intende valorizzare, attraverso la realizzazione di opportunità di dibattito e di sviluppo culturale, senza i quali non è pensabile un reale sviluppo della società civile.

Produrre ed esporre arte richiede ed al contempo stimola riflessioni ed interrogativi sul senso e sulla direzione di un progetto. Realizzare mostre o famigerati “eventi” artistici non può essere ridotto ad un meccanismo autoreferenziale, che torni a vantaggio dei pochi eletti, i quali si spartiscono il frutto di operazioni del tutto avulse dal contesto economico, sociale, dalla storia, dalla conformazione geografica del luogo dove sono inseriti, senza rispetto della posizione soggettiva della comunità. Ciò non significa che coloro che sono coinvolti in manifestazioni di carattere artistico, o più estesamente, culturale debbano “obbedire” alla volontà, al desiderio degli abitanti “autoctoni” o dei loro rappresentanti e dei non addetti ai lavori, peraltro non provvisti delle competenze professionali necessarie per realizzare simili iniziative.

Proporre arte sottintende e intende creare un legame.

La mostra tradizionale, come del resto l’installazione e, a maggior ragione il site specific art – forse potrà essere scontato per chi opera nel settore, ma non sempre del tutto compreso in profondità- non costituisce un’operazione asettica. Richiede un progetto con una motivazione solida e capace di continuità, di prospettiva. Presuppone una riflessione sul contesto con cui si entra necessariamente in relazione.

Una delle definizioni più belle di biblioteca è “luogo dei legami”; credo che si attagli molto bene alla rete immateriale e materiale di relazioni che una operazione artistica attentamente progettata presuppone. Essa, infatti, racchiude ed esplica il legame con il luogo, in cui si realizza concretamente, con la sua comunità, intesa in senso sincronico e diacronico, e le diverse sfumature di ricezione e di attivazione che si vengono a creare. Riesce a rendere idea del rapporto tra comunità degli artisti e dei loro “interpreti”, critici, curatori, addetti stampa, ma anche promotori, galleristi, collezionisti, amanti dell’arte, eppoi ancora funzionari e amministratori degli Enti e delle Istituzioni, più o meno sensibili e capaci di cogliere le differenze, anche a livello qualitativo, delle proposte che arrivano ai loro tavoli e che devono trovare un investimento, non solo in termini materiali ed economici, ma anche morali.

Queste considerazioni, che tuttavia non ritengo esclusivamente soggettive, ma al contrario piuttosto “oggettive” sono originate da un duplice grimaldello, che ha accompagnato la mia estate, derivatomi dall’aver percorso le strade di Muenster, per il “SKULPTURE PROJECTS MUENSTER 07” e dalle mostre e situazioni artistiche da me curate e studiate in questo periodo. Necessariamente mi sono trovata a pormi degli interrogativi che andavano ben al di là del semplice “che cosa rappresenta quest’opera d’arte?”

Devo dire che è stato non solo stimolante, ma anche rigenerante potermi confrontare in modo fresco e diretto con i luoghi e la comunità viva, pulsante della città tedesca, che ha visto materializzarsi le idee e le opere di tanti padri della contemporaneità artistica quali Joseph Beuys, Donald Judd, Richard Long, Claes Oldenburg, Richard Serra, Walter De Maria, Bruce Nauman, Dan Flavin e Dan Graham, per non citare che i più noti.

Muenster, pur non avara di polemiche, specie in occasione della prima e forse più rivoluzionaria edizione dello “Skulptur Project”, si è rivelata al visitatore intento in una vera e propria caccia al tesoro di opere d’arte da rintracciare una città ospitale e dinamica, ma al tempo stesso attenta a preservare i segni, le tracce visibili e immateriali della propria storia, come sappiamo profondamente segnata dalla tragedia della seconda guerra mondiale, ma anche, risalendo indietro nel tempo, dai conflitti  religiosi tra cattolici e protestanti.

Interprete di queste insanabili lacerazioni, che non si intende vigliaccamente rimuovere o disconoscere, è stata, in particolare in questa edizione, l’artista Martha Rosler, che ha disseminato la città di opere segno della tragedia che si incarna nella storia attraverso gli uomini e le loro azioni.

L’artista ha trasformato Muenster  in un campo di memoria, realizzando un’architettura di simboli che si riferiscono alla sua storia.
